BRIKWARS NEWS
November 28, 2004 - Movable Type Conversion

I've just converted this news ticker over to a Movable Type system. This has several benefits:

  • Adding news items no longer means having to reprogram the front page and archives by hand (phew!)
  • Those of you in the blogosphere can now add BrikWars news to your syndicated feeds (for instance, "brikwars_feed" on livejournal)
  • Readers with a free TypeKey account now have the option of leaving comments on news entries. Look for the "comments" link at the bottom right corner. (I have the feeling this one will come back to bite me, but we'll see how it goes.)

Look how manly the Movable Type logo used to be.

I noticed that you used many words that I didn't really understand - well, I understood them each individually, but not in a "yeah, I get your meaning" sense. But I think you're saying that something good has happened, and as I have no information to the contrary I feel inclined to agree with you. So congratulations, and keep moving that type.

Oh *now* I can post... You've got some on/off switch there that keeps me out, don't you?

I sent you an email to see if you could tell me how this works - because I'd like to add it to my site (who can pass *that* up, I ask you?), but I don't see any easy clicky-buttons or shiny, blinky lights to direct me.

I gave a couple more hints in the next news entry - the main thing I forgot to mention was the link to the RSS feed:

You use Blogger, right? I'm not sure whether that one is set up to handle incoming feeds or not, I did a quick look around but this was all I could find:

I think all he was looking for was one of those buttons people use to link to sites.

Of course, I might be misunderstanding his Evilness.

No, I was looking for some easy way to make this work.

Or am I totally misunderstanding the process? I'm thinking that this will plug in BrikWars! news as it happens on my site in a designated area. Is that correct? I'll be honest, I haven't had time to investigate it yet.

There may be an issue with MT and my hosting however. I thought I remembered hearing that they had disabled MT feeds because of security issues. Again, I haven't checked...

I'm in over my head - this must be how Sullivan feels all the time.

*rimshot!*

BTW, I have major issues signing-in and out.

First, I have to signed in at TypeKey. But when I get back here, it thinks I'm not. I go back to TypeKey and sign out there. Then, if I come back here, I'm signed in... Freaky. What next? Animal/Virgin Sacrifices?

Where will the madness end?

Yeah, signing in is weird. For me it only works if I do it from the "sign in" link on the comments page, it doesn't make any difference if I'm already signed in to TypeKey or not.

As far as feed-hosting goes, I only know how the LiveJournal-based blogs work; on there adding feeds is a snap, as long as you've got a paid account. I have no experience with anything else.
