Questions and comments are welcome and may be addressed to the author at the address above. Thanks are due to LEGO inc. for making cool toys, but LEGO is in no way responsible for the use or misuse of this document. Numbers on the top and bottom are the X coordinates of the stars in the Gaian Sector. The numbers on the left are the Y coordinates. The numbers on the map are the Z coordinates of the star, the position of the number representing the stars X and Y location. For convenience there is only one star located at any given X and Y coordinate pair. The lines drawn between the stars represent paths of 2 or less parsecs between those stars (thus those routes may be travelled by a starship with a two parsec Jitlov Hyperspace drive. Those routes labeled by double lines (= or ") are 1 parsec routes which may be traveled by ships with an "impulse" drive. Three parsec routes are too numerous to be depicted upon the map but they may be calculated by the formula (X1-X2)squared+(Y1-Y2)squared+(Z1-Z2)squared <= 9 (3 squared). Two parsec routes are very important economically as over 90% of all commercial starships are only capable of 2 parsec jumps. A "Reach" is defined as "a group of stars that can be connected by a series (even a very long series) of 2 (or less) parsec jumps." Thus all trade between Reaches must be carried at some point on 3 parsec capable starships which are very expensive and may only be constructed at the most advanced shipyards. Thus it is often more economical to make many 2 parsec jumps (if traveling within a reach) than one 3 parsec jump. Most trade between reaches is carried by the Free Traders who live on their large 3 parsec capable starships. Most other 3 parsec capable starships belong to the governments of advanced planets within LEGO (Limitless Empire of the Gaian Outreach) or to LEGO itself (in particular the Space Police). Most space-faring powers outside of LEGO do not have 3 parsec starships with the particular exception of the Space Pirates. There are some 2 parsec lines leading off the edge of the map. These lines go to other stars in adjacent sectors as depicted below. Cartesian| High Memory | Trek Sector | Sector | Sector ------------------------------------- Fartron | Gaian | Mythic Sector | Sector | Sector ------------------------------------- Samsonite| Lincoln | Retail Sector | Sector | Sector These are the only sectors that have been explored as far as anyone in LEGO knows. A Sector is a 10 x 10 x 10 parsec block of space, it is not the same as a Reach. There are only 9 explored sectors (each containing 100 stars) but there are at least 40 reaches, some containing only 2 stars. A star that is not a part of any reach is called an "island". Sometimes a reach of only 2 or 3 stars (such as the Dark Reach) is called a "minireach". Some Reaches extend though several different sectors. For instance, the Gaian Reach extends through the High Memory Sector back around to the upper left hand corner of the Gaian Sector (part of the Arachnoid Empire), where it is known as "Fargaia" although it is still part of the Gaian Reach. Much of the Fartron Sector is simply a continuation of the Tron Reach. There are no sectors above or below in the Z direction as the galactic arm is only 10 parsecs thick in this region of space. Locations for the stars in these adjacent sectors have been determined but there are no presently available ascii maps for them. The names of some of the more important stars in the Gaian Sector have been labeled on the map above. Most of LEGO and all of the planets represented in the senate are in the Gaian Sector. The names and some description of all the stars in the Gaian Sector is given below.
