Use powers to lift the books out of the shelves so they aren't damaged.

Behind the shelf you find what appears to be a long, dark corridor. There is a stench of decay here, and it feels cold to the bone.

Be amazed by the new discovery, and extremely bothered that I didn't know about it.

"For knowledge!" I follow the dangerous chaotic evil gods down the stairs, taking in every detail about the new scenery as well as the party.
