I wish that everything died quicker on fallout 3.

Like everything it's all the way you go about it and having the right weapons. Train up your character properly and you can drop the bad guys really easily. Most of my charcters are sneaky small arms specialists, but with Tishla her speciality is collecting landmines which she quietly lays out and then tricks the bad guys into chasing her.

I'm talking about pacing. I wish there were fewer rounds involved in taking out a single enemy. That's the one thing I didn't like about the game.

I was captured by aliens in the Mothership Zeta expansion and was supposed to start fighting the other human in my cell to cause a ruckus and stuff. I lock on to her with VATS and punch her. Then the Mysterious Stranger comes out of nowhere and blows her head off! Needless to say, I had to restart from the previous save as that character was necessary in order to escape the ship.

I haven't played any of the expansions yet even though I have them. With Oblivion and Morrowind I made the mistake of running about through all the expansions without properly finishing the main game and I don't want to do it with Fallout 3 too.
I must say that Mothership Zeta is one of the expansions I'm keen to try though.

Hey mgb519, - what do you mean by 'pacing'?

I mean that everything has a little too much health for my liking. Not by much, but still. That includes the player.

I don't think the player has too much health. Think about how quickly you would die in ANY situation. Some there's just no way around. I'm specifically thinking about the time when you're just walking around some town houses and you're bum-rushed by 4 supermutant brutes with miniguns. Then you realize that there's a rocket comping towards you from right above. If you didn't have as much health, there would be no way to survive that encounter. The encounter would be boring if it were any other way though. I'd rather have awesomeness > realisticness.

And I think the rest of the characters just have more health to balance out gameplay. I think they juggled having an overpowered, superhero like character very well through the other creatures.

There was this one point where I tore through a bandit camp in a ravine, and then came out and looked around. The town I was attempting to sneak through looked like I could flank it, and it was possibly full of hostiles. I had a few Stealth Boys, and wanted to see what I could find.

It took me four saves to get through that cave system.

Deathclaw took me out when I went to far down the ravine once. I looked down at a dessicated corpse and wondered what it was doing there, looted it's energy pistol, and looked up as a howling bundle of hide and claws onehitted me.

Another time, I came over the hill above the town, only to drop directly into a full-rad area. A supermutant with some sort of mingun chased me for five minutes until I succumbed.

The next save, I got chased by the same mutant directly into a pack of radscorpions. "You feel a bit woozy." Dead.

And then I hightailed it back out of the ravine into a watering hole, and then pissed of a pack of wild mutant bulls. Gore everywhere.

I get the feeling that if my health was halved, I would be dying a lot more. There is something to be said about being chased in a circle for ten minutes by a single radscorpion while I empty cartridge after cartridge into it's face though. Heh.

That's the thing though. I don't die enough.
I once came across a random enclave character when I'd just started a new character(Yes, it was on "very hard"). I put about 20 10mm rounds in his direction before I went and punched his face in. I should not be able to match up to an enclave character with only 20 rounds and some fists-the game should force me to run in that kind of circumstance.

1. Were you playing good or bad character? Bad characters are WAY s
stronger than good characters, which is what I play.

2. Are you using mods or anything that could be helping you? I'm playing on XBox360 with no expansions or anything. And if you're playing on PC, you could find mods to remedy that problem in an instant.

3. Sometimes you just get lucky with things and can survive. Other times you get the crap end of the stick and die in 5 seconds.

Maybe I'm just not as good of a gamer as you. I also only use VATs mode when it's the start of a fight and when it's needed GREATLY. I don't click it whenever my AP is high enough, because most of the time I'm running around, trying to stay alive while shooting things in the face.

Game balance and how much health a character has is a really difficult one. Too little and the game becomes frustrating, too much and the game loses all sense of danger. Playing sneaky and not especially strong characters like I do it's not so much of a problem I find. Getting into too many direct confrontations is bad for my character's health (literally) and I find they tend to die all too quickly when mobbed by three or more Super Mutants.
I did play a character once who had good hand to hand and melee skills and it did seem to me that her fists were better than any bullet could be.

Awareness of how much ammo you've got certainly puts an edge on the game for me. That along with how badly worn your weapons might be and whether the bits can be found to fix them makes for a good sense of realism.

Fallout 3 was too easy, even on Very Hard with FWE installed to make headshots and the like more dangerous, I still just about never died.

Armor+using cover+VATS+aiming well outside of VATS pretty much makes the game weaksauce.

I, for one, welcome the cadazores!

I was saying the Mysterious Stranger was being a troll.
