no not sca i played a version of DARKON, imagine DND crossed with dagohir. currently i go to a larp group up in rancho cucamonga thats medium combat Realms of conflict live effects type combat. as opposed to the heavy combat of darkon. besides dARKON GETS CANNON AND BALISTA its awesome i made myself a balista that shoots the javelin like bolts, its huge, to get it all the more easily moved about the battle field im planing on wheels. and you can build the cannons like paintball/airsoft bazookas, only larger bore.

For reference:

The end of this movie is depressing. As in all larping groups, the biggest douche always wins.

I've heard some good tales, one was the battle of badon hill (dagohir) where someones arrows passed safety inspection, and then one ended up sticking in a shield. Another cool tale, was actually from the darkon boards and why they kept wood as one of the materials for thrusting weapons. It was cool because even after people got hit they would be pole vaulted away from the wielder of the spear.

as for weapon differenses, swords in sca are made of ratan, spears are hardwood poles that are coverd in maybe one or 2 layers of foam, axes are 12ox or heavier leather that have been sown together, that and its usually alot of swords and board, darkon actually has the rules for different classes, even though there are a lot of warriors that does not preclude the existence of mages, clerics, rogues, assasins, monks, druids, and rangers. the nice thing is that you can found your own kingdoms and then you can basically try to conquer the world through the map. compared to sca or dagohir that just has you pound the other guy into shit, in darkon theres a reason to pound the other guy into shit.

So you fight using toy arrows and foam swords? Me and my friends used wood and made our own weapons there were scimitars, longswords, shortswords, knives and other crap. Then we fought using them I used a shortsword and I also made myself a switchblade just in case. it was fun but after a long battle it hurt like hell.

we added more weapons like stones, axes(we tied a piece of wood to a stick) and spears.

I will admit that I have participated in the SCA before, and that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was on my way to a DnD session that day and figured I'd stop by the SCA guys in the park by my buddy's house before we went to play. DnD got cancelled, so I figured I'd stay around for a bit. "You wanna try on some armor?" got followed by "ok now go stand over there", which was then followed by "I'm going to try to stab you in the face with this pike now. DON'T GET HIT". Then I was eventually shanghai'd into participating in the shield wall.

SCA is admittedly kindof cool, but I don't have the time, money, or Ass Burgers to really commit to it.

It's an honor system. You actually hit others, but it's up to them to keep track of hit points and things.

sounds fun, I think it would be cool to go roman, shield walls, testudo formations,
- I refuse to be stopped by something as irrelevant as logic, the laws of physics, or common sense -

if 20 chickens can fit in a brick, how many pingpongballs does a crocodile have to eat so it can swim faster than a washing machine?

Speaking from experience, a shield wall done right can be very scary. Especialy if you're fighting at night, when all you can see are shields and weapons heading your way.
