Don't buy it if you don't have lots of time. It takes FOREVER to set up.

Best with 5 people. Make a whole day out of hit, bring barbeque, beer, chips, the works. An awesome game if you're willing to take a while.

I've never personally played it, but at my high school my group of friends and our art teacher often had a game going. Everyone always had a study hall at the same time every day before lunch, and they would take the game out then, do as many turns as they could, then put it back. Pretty neat.

So it's like WH40K with WW2 miniatures?

not really. it's like risk with a shit-ton more rules and more of a historical context.

It's this one that they're talking about, not the miniatures game: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/prod/axis

Yeah, Axis and Allies covers various parts of WW2 (people really seem to buy a lot of Spring 1942). The "40k in WW2" game is Tide of Iron, a scenario-based tactical combat game. The hex maps are actually pretty sweet for that one.

There are now three things people are talking about.

Axis and Allies the board game:

Tide of Iron:

Miniatures (collectibles):
