Especially since they're lying about not liking tree harming, all they want is too insure you have to buy most or all of your wood off them... Like were'd they get all the wood if they don't cut down trees! Honestly...

they live around trees enough that they can get enough wood just from picking up fallen branches?
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

They ask the trees nicely and then kill their relatives?
Then again these are ELVES, some of their civilisations don't condemn cannibalism.
Though one elf is really really awesome:
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Cacame_Awemedinade
Basic history:
The dwarven civilization and Cacame's former Elven civilization were at war for many years, with the dwarves basically kicking the crap out of the elves for decades. In 90, the dwarves conquered his home city and placed a new dwarven governor in charge. Cacame was 7 at the time, and 5 years later, at the ripe old age of 12, he became a Guard.

Two years later, an elven attack injured his lower body and killed his wife Nemo (who was then eaten by the elf that killed her). Two years after that, in 99, the dwarven king was killed in battle and somehow, Cacame became the leader of the civilization at the age of 16. It can only be assumed that his hatred of his other elves at eating his wife was so great that it impressed even the dwarves.

Later, Cacame would go on to defeat a dragon with nothing more than Competent Hammer skill.

Yep. That's Cacame.

Speaking of which! I need to make his faction. Thanks for reminding me.
