A series of games in the shooter subgenre "bullet hell", basically at any one time over 50% of the screen is made of bullets.
the games are mainly known for their high difficulty, intricate bullet patterns, and bad original art.
Due to the bad art many fans have created fan art, fan music, fan videos, and become really really BIG. The fans of the series have some stupendously amazing stuff, such as the music videos by IOSYS and the hand drawn music video of "bad apple"

The flash game "frantic 2" Is a good introduction. Set the game to "frantic" mode and you have a touhou game on easy!

Ah, bullet hells. One of the few video game genres that can actually be more fun to watch then play. :)
