Knolli: 1: Knolli attempts to shush the others and takes a step towards the door. He trips over an unseen sill in the ground and crashes to the floor, sending the contents of his pockets everywhere in a loud clatter.

The whine stops abruptly, and something rumbles.

Two- then four- then eight red eyes appear in the darkness ahead of you. You're suddenly very, very conscious of the fact that that wall looks very, very thin.

It was bound to happend sometime sooner or later. On the other hand it's the ideal scene to introduce my blades. 8)

I think I have a blade in my hand, although I actually have lost the knife. I get up in a fighting position and start moving backwards towards the group.

She' stares at the glowing lights, frozen in irrational fear and unresponsive to Alec's order. Knolli scrambles backwards as the eyes blink slowly, and then rise past the level of the door. With a dull thud, the wall shudders under a sudden impact of a heavy limb. She' snaps out of it as the wall crashes open. An unearthly roar shakes the floor as long mandibles descends toward the party.

Roll to Dodge!
Alec: 4 He dives under the arm just in time.
Knolli: 1 He brings his arm up, only to be smacked full on in the chest. Knolli goes flying. [-4 HP]
She': 6 He squints one eye and fires, the bolt illuminating the large beast's slavering mouth. It smacks the thing in the face. [4 damage] Howling, it lashes out, clipping She' as he's unable to duck in time. [-1 HP] [+1 XP]
Fenix: 6 He jumps to the side, his legs going out from under him as a flying piece of the wall smacking him in the chest. [-1 HP] [+1 XP]

Why do I have +1 in melee? I have a gun for my mutation, shouldn't that be ranged?

Try and shoot the Mantis in the mouth again.

Just my luck.

Again I get up from the floor. I shake the confusing thoughts out of my head: "Where did the second blade come from? How did I survive this hit without any major injury?" Instead I focus on the fight.

I try to get on the mantis' back and stab it in it's neck.

She': 1: She' backs up, being left against the wall. He attempts to concentrate on firing, but his gun only pulses a bit. A feeling of absolute fear seems to drench him as he looks up at the Mantis's mandible heading towards him.

Knolli: 5: Knolli leaps, landing on the beast's back as it smashes through the wall. He raises his fists and plunges his blades into it's neck. [6 damage] The Mantis roars in pain.

Alec brings his sword up, slicing a chunk out of the thing's side. [6 damage]. It shudders, neon-green blood drenching him, and takes a stumbling step towards She', collapsing over Fenix.

Inactive: Roll to Dodge!

Fenix: 3: Fenix bolts out of the way. His leg is pinned by the falling mass.

"That went well," Alec observes, looking over the thing. The lights sputter suddenly and flicker on, illuminating the Thermal Testing chamber. From your vantage point, you can only see an empty large hall-like room, with a huge, narrow-focused piece of equipment set into the ground.

I think on 1s you should lose a buff you have (just to make it fun :D )

Nah, and here's why. Combat output is affected by your success rate.

6: 1d6+mod+2
5: 1d6+mod+1
4: 1d6+mod
3: 1d6+mod-1
2: 1d6+mod-2
1: 1d6-2

It also affects Roll To Dodge! rolls as well. Fluctuating modifications and rolling for simple movement is a way to make a RTD look and be ridiculous.

Also, She' and Fenix have an XP to spend.

From the overall surrounding chaos and being trapped by debris, Fenix starts feeling numbness followed by stinging, consuming pain. It suddenly gets channeled to his hands as he tries to break free.

I wish to form a new mutation, Claws, so I now have an advantage in attack and defense.

The light go on and I see my stuff scattered across the floor - including the bowie knife.
"If my knife is lying there, what did I use to stab the beast? *looks down at my hands and see my blades the first time* "WOAH! Hey look. Are they cool or what?!"
For a moment I actually forget the world around me.
I try to retract and elongate them and make some swings to get used to them. Afterwards I do some advanced swordplay figures, you know, like this.
