...anyway, I vote for shotgun. Much better stopping power than a 9mm. And we're not trying to take down an elephant, just a zombie. A shot in the head is a zombie dead.

A hatchet, axe, or sledgehammer would make a nice melee weapon.

Shotguns are heavy, ammo is common but also massive, so you won't be able to carry a lot, and the pellets won't destroy the brain (the only way to assuredly kill a zombie) from anything but point-blank range. it's fairly good for knocking zombies on their asses and running like hell though.

The shotgun is still more adaptable weapon, you can open nearly any door ,make your own, hunt, enjoy hunting anything with your nine thats worth eating, I'm not saying its impossible, but no matter how you slice it, the shotty has more uses, and slighly more common ammo, and anyone with experience with a shotfun would be using 30-60 not buckshot, and could kill any humanoid from a suprsising distance, maybe even with a "turkey gun" scope (Please no "WTF SCOPE ON SHOTGUN THATS DUMB"). Now if you can get your hands on an Ithica Featherlight or similar style of gun, unless your an anorexic ethopian, it shouldn't be to hard to carry. Im not saying its THE weapon, but you would do good to keep it around.

Ptshhhh, you all have it wrong. I wouldn't fight the zombies, no, I'm to lazy for that. I'd move up to Alaska, where no zombies can survive without freezing due to the lack of body head because they aren't using their organs, which produce heat. It's 10x safer, and you can poke live, frozen zombies as they stare at you!

and you couldn't do all these with a bolt-action rifle? the only thing that you wouldn't be able to do the same is the door thing, but i'd strongly recommend something that doesn't require ammo for such a task. as common as shotgun shells may be, when you're out, you're out, and when you're out, you're dead.

again, remember that the only garunteed way to take the "un" out of "undead" is the removal or destruction of the brain. while a shotgun is an amazing weapon at long range against living targets, the living dead will not cry out in pain by being peppered with pellets from long distance, or even be slowed down. it's not until close range that you get much of a knockback, and even closer for an actual kill. unless you're somehow able to come across slug shots, i'd recommend using the shotgun only as an auxiliary weapon, if at all.

Unless you're somehow able to come across slug shots, i'd recommend using the shotgun only as an auxiliary weapon, if at all.

There actually really common. And also, I think were on different pages here, im talking about a small squad (4-8) of Survivors, one maybe two of which would have a scatter gun.


Also a .303 carbine is, in my opinion, a better choice than a bolt, but not by much.

Maybe one of these bubba'd up with laxorz, and a larger clip.

ah! see i was picturing people on their own, not in squads. in that case, yes, it's a very good idea for at least one guy to have a shotgun.

a carbine is nice, but would it have the flat out range you'd get from a rifle? i say bolt-action so you get the idea in mind of what kind of rifle i'm talking here, but a semi-auto rifle would be superior in everything but ammo consumption, and with discipline you've got that covered too. a carbine IS, however, very good for medium-close ranges. that one in particular looks like the kind that wouldn't jam up on you either, so that'd be a great choice.

I started a Zombie thread in General btw. Also, while i was writing a script for a independent zombie movie, my co-writer was talking about drunk zombies being viable, and wanted to get the general consensus, disregard the "HOW DOES I DRUNKEN ZOMBIE" and assume you could get them to ingest it..
