Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
[kneels]
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like
[sniffing, pondering]
Kilgore: victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

No....... no, I'm going to cut against the grain here, but modern mechanised warfare with napalm and white phosphorus bombs and even artillery bombardments and missiles is the cowards way to fight a war. The 20th century coined the terms 'friendly fire' and 'collateral damage', - which are just other words for the careless and brutal murder of human beings by idiots and cowards.
I don't even like guns, - and I used to be a crack shot too. I can tolerate a bow even though I'm not very good with one myself, but it's the sword that was my weapon. Before coming to Religious life I studied Iaidio as well as the Tai Chi sword form. I taught myself the discipline of how to correctly make a new sword hilt from scratch using hickory, and mount it, bind it & etc. I did a certain amount of sword work for other folk and they were always pleased with the quality of my craft. The swords I've worked on have an ancient bronze Chinese coin under the binding so their owner always has the means to pay the ferryman.
I have absolutely no desire to kill anyone, but if I did I would use my sword (live blade razor sharp shinken). Killing at a distance is for cowards and those who lack for the courage of their convictions.

The same goes for heretics (and/or other filth) in my book. If you're going to burn a heretic you chain them to something, put wood and kindling under them and light the match yourself. None of this bombs from the sky crap and no accelerants either And then you stand and smell the stink of them as they burn and watch them die.
Anything else and you're just a cowardly poser.

I pray everyday for the dead, the dying and those who are in danger and desperate circumstances. Everytime I see pictures of phosphorus bombed children I feel so angry I could choke and a part of me wants nothing more than to have five minutes alone with the pig who did it, just me, him and my sword.
No wonder I have to go about all day whispering under my breath, 'Lord Jesus only son of the living God have mercy on me a sinner.'

But back to the thread. Yes that Illuminati website had some small motes of gold amongst the dross, but Gnosticism is a total dead end in the search for God. As a contemplative solitary I can tell you that all that mystery mumbo-jumbo of the Illuminati is plain bunkum. Finding God is the most simple thing in the world and you don't have to be wearing the right 'T' shirt to be able to do it. I happen to be a Catholic, but that's just the path I trod to get this far. I'm far from perfect, but I know I'm going to end up alright in the end.

Sermon over.......

they would say that the god you worship is Satan posing as the true god Abraxas. And that in fact, it is Christianity that is dead. Having read the bible several times, I don't find that a very difficult thing to believe.

In any case, I will leave you two to discuss the God /Son of the Morning issue and go play with my new Lego stuff.

You betcha life Sugar. Those qualities are what made me such a good social worker and advocate for folk with disabilities.

Hoboman: Yeah I know (sigh). I should go outside and harass the weeds in the garden instead.

Piltogg: All the mystics agree (Sufi, Christian, Buddhist etc) that there is a point which is reached where the words on the page of any holy book burr and become of no consequence because one has entered the presence of God. And having entered the presence of God one seeks to be as god-like as one can be in one's everyday life.
Long ago the Inquisition called this the Doctrine of the Free Spirit and despite all their considerable efforts the writings of the Christian mystics of those times have survived.

Jesus said, "I am the light that is over all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all attained.
Split a piece of wood; I am there.
Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."

The Bible makes little sense at all unless it is read in the Spirit and most modern translations make no sense at all anyway as they have been fiddled with to make them 'relevant' and 'inclusive' as well as a lot of other silly notions. Myself I prefer the Septuagint Bible

And that's enuff from me............................

well.. If you consider the Torah to be basically "direct from god" or at least nearly so, then at least that part should have a pretty accurate representation of his will. yes?" From that we would already know that he is the kind of god who chooses one people over all others, producing inequality, who would ask a man to murder his own son, who is not afraid to murder thousands in order to accomplish his will, who personally intervenes on behalf of mankind. who is temperamental enough to attempt to destroy all life on earth. Does that sound like a god to you? No. That sounds like a divine being certainly, but not one of absolute perfection. Not the highest possible divinity. Such a creature is largely flawed, and therefore cannot be god.

Who would you be to say that the things that God does are flawed?

If you want to talk logic, you're doing it wrong. If God was considered all-powerful and his actions were defined as perfection, then all actions considered just and right would need to be based on God's actions. You wouldn't be able to base God's actions on another standard because by most Christians, God is the standard. If God killed someone, that would technically be considered perfection.

In short, God can't be flawed because God is perfection and all things would be in respect to Him. Anything that is not like God would be flawed.

*Not what I believe necessarily, but a logical argument nonetheless.

As Nietzsche said of the Superman: "The creator seeks companions, not corpses or herds of believers. The creator seeks fellow creators, those who inscribe new values on new tables."

Would god really ever desire to have mindless hordes worship him unquestioningly? What could he gain from such acts other than a boost to his ego? If he is god, then he has no need of an ego-boost.

I think this really makes sense. So god sends us down here to see who has what it takes to be his compamions and the rest of us just are spiritual garbage. Nice way to see the world.

Sancte Michael Archangele,
defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Nietzsche was a nihilistic wanker. You can quote me on that if you want.

Is that what folks are saying now? Nietzche was a provocateur, he said whatever he felt would challenge the status quo of the moment. Sometimes that involved nihilism, sometimes not, but advancing any specific or consistent philosophy was never his priority, He was just the regular kind of wanker.
