High capacity drop pod
This is the first version of my squad size drop pod. It’s a lot blockier the I’d planned on, but I couldn’t find a way to incorporate another shape without losing the side ramp structures that I really liked (I did find a few 40K drop pods made out of Legos, and while they looked cool, I lacked the parts required to build them).
The pod can fit between 16 and 24 soldiers, depending on how close they’re packed in and the bulk of gear they’re wearing. This shot shows it with 16 soldiers embarked. I’m still working rules for how to actually use the damn thing, but I expect it to be very effective (provided it doesn’t blow up on the way down or get shot to pieces before landing), especially if I can crush a few enemy troopers underneath it when it lands.
Here’s what it looks like without troops onboard. At the moment, it can only carry infantry, but I’m working on building some gun batteries to mount inside, much like the whirlwind pods from 40K (I think that’s what they’re called). I’m not planning on modifying it to carry dreadnaughts and other light vehicles right now, given that there’s a statistically significant risk of the pod blowing itself apart before it lands, so putting anything too expensive in it is a substantial risk. Also, I don’t have any dreadnaughts, but I’m planning on building my first few over this next week.

Looks cool. If you wanted to make it shapelier, you could but the hinges at the top. Then you can decorate the door with whatever you want.

I considered doing that, but I liked having the doors drop down to form big ramps. And I don't think the doors would stay open if I did that anyway, since the hinges probably wouldn't be able to take the weight (and I've been trying to figure out a way to make the doors open to the sides, but I just don't have the parts).Kalvinator wrote:Looks cool. Re: High capacity drop pod
that is really cool! By using this, you might force the enemy to take artillery which mus be quite expensive CPwise so you'll have less infantry and vehicles to deal with
or something, i have no idea actually.

Oh, I forgot about the kitties.
Re: High capacity drop pod
Covering the drop pod with spikes would be a great idea.
