From the depths of the forests shrouding the Goblin Kingdom of Llab'y'Rinthe emerges a strange new warmachine... I give you (with sincere apologies for the fuzziness of the pics - I really need a camera with a better zoom and one of those 'still life' buttons, YES, my camera is so old it doesn't HAVE that button, I looked...) the Spider Golem, Mark I:

Created by Master Engineer Morglum (of the Ocher [Ocher is a fancy word for Yellow and sounds better than calling them Yellow Goblins, in retrospect] Goblin Clan), seen manning the Alchemical Launcher, the Spider Golem is a masterwork of Engineering mixed with the twisted magic used by the goblin clans. Capable of following the orders of any goblin holding the Control Amulet (and knowledgeable of the command passwords), the Golems are an odd conglomeration of rusty metal and scrap iron shrouded with wood planking. The forelimbs are capable of spearing anyone within range. The small jaws under the launcher are mostly cosmetic. The "cannon" on the front platform is actually an Alchemical Launcher, capable of sending pre-prepared canisters flying across to battlefield to deploy their payload upon whatever hapless targets they hit.
Master Alchemist Azahd (Green/Forest Goblin, standing on the rear platform) teamed up with Morglum to design the Alchemical Launcher, and designed the canisters used to fire various compounds across the battlefield, up to 16" away. Examples of ammunition designed for this gun so far include: Goblin Fire (like Greek Fire but made by the goblins, obviously), poison gas bombs, and Azahd's personal favorite, the Goblin Glue Grenade, which basically bursts into a web-like, sticky, gooey mass that traps targets in place (making them an easier target for pikegoblins and archers).

Yes, I used the Shelob build from the LOTR set as the basis for this machine, heavily modified. Yes, it needs some thicker legs, but it will suffice for the time being. It does stand up on its own without additional support right now, so I'm good. ;)

The idea is that it will be kind of a centerpiece for the army. If anyone here ever played Warhammer Fantasy, the Empire used to have a unit called the Empire War Wagon. Eventually, I will build the rest of the crew for the Spider Golem, and equip them with a variety of weaponry, although polearms and some kind of crossbow are the most likely weaponry.

Now that is badass.

I think it would be cool to use those as cavalry units, like the goblin spider-riders from the Battle for Middle-Earth games.

...and having gotten the damned camera to focus on it, a view of the crew platforms! The barrels are for holding ammo for the alchemical launcher.
