I'll need to change gears in my mind to work that way but I'll get it eventually. Presently I have a disorganised style of just sticking things together until I'm happy... I used to be faster at this stuff but I'm out of practice... anyway enough excuses...
I think the speed and manoeuvrability (compared to a cruiser) of a squadron (say three) of these MIGHT give you a hard time... they are rigged for anti shipping, it's what they do... though you do have turrets. Anti Fighter/Missile Escort ships would be a good idea to keep off the fighters and their missiles while the Cruiser fires the main gun at the big stuff. (It's conventional Navy tactics WWII style in space).
I call it old-school building vs. new-school building. I generally build in the same way that you do, which is classic-style lego construction. New-school designs use a lot of curves, flat plates, and angled SNOT.
