The important things for photographing Lego are to turn on detail mode if your camera has it (on most cameras it looks like a little flower) and hold the camera completely steady (hold it on top of furniture or books or something if you don't have a tripod). Lighting also makes a big difference, if you have any spare lamps you can bring to the table.

... I have an ikea torch... and that's about it for quickly movable lighting. I have a big lamp in my room which has three different lamps on sort of flexible hinge-like-things. It's on wheels, but I have carpeting, so I would have to drag it around the house, and... it would take a lot of set-up in my particular case in order to do it effectively. Still, I can see what all we have available and mess around with it a bit. I will definitely try and improve the photo quality, because I hate it just as much as you do.

Indeed.
Infantry may be the Queen of battle, but Armor is the chastity belt that keeps that bitch from getting snuggled.
