Intruder Light Hovertank

Postby IVhorseman » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:32 pm

The Intruder is a light hovertank that specializes in urban situations and anti-infantry roles. As with many Galactic Union fighting vehicles, it works alongside Peacekeeper Droids.

To withstand the front lines, this tank does not use bulky armor plating, but instead a sloped and reinforced shell provides sufficient defenses while remaining light enough for the hover lifts.

While it's weapons are comparatively short-ranged, a standard Intruder comes equipped with a main cannon designed to fire high-explosive shells, as well as a heavy machine gun to pin and mow down soft targets. All of this is mounted on a 360 degree rotating turret.

The rear-end of the tank has very respectable defenses, making flanking attacks almost completely ineffective against an Intruder.

Image

The turret is also lightweight enough to be simply removed for the occasion when the Pilot Droid may need to leave his vehicle

Similarly, the front end opens up to reveal a Peacekeeper Droid ready for combat. A common assault technique for an Intruder is to ram it's front armor into a hostile-occupied structure, and pry open the hole it made with it's front end until the Droid can deploy and neutralize the threat. In fact, it is this tactic that helped name the Intruder

The tank is also remarkable for maintaining a very low profile, as seen here next to it's full crew (Peacekeeper and Pilot droids, left to right), and a standard GU soldier.

Sheer loveliness, I fancy from the front it looks a little like a Reaver ship... only slightly and without all the smoke and crap coming out the back

I am so getting those front pieces now.

Yeah, I pretty much specifically made this so i could use up that piece. I've still got another one I need to waste somewhere...

EDIT:

vvv Hovertank. It says Hovertank in the thread title and everything. vvv

There's something weird abouit the tank snob not calling this a tank even though it lacks tracks :D , but that's not important cause my tank design uses wheels. Other than that it is awesome.

Yeah... I knew that, yes I agree, it's a hovertank. You could even call it a Repulsorlift as that is what they use in Star Wars or what ever you want. What I was saying is the shape is a little like that reaver thing I posted, IMO, that's all. The more I look at this the more I want those sloped pieces. Nice.

It's a Pilot Droid. To me, the nubs on the side of the head look sort of like eyes, so I use those to represent Pilots.

I tried it with one of my own droids and I see it now, but the backside of the head still looks weird if you do it :) 'Real' pilot droids (the blue ones) are hard to come by.

Ah, but mine aren't supposed to be star wars battle droids! I just use the battle droid bodies because i have tons of them.

That's a good thing, too :) I always liked those but have to admit they weren't very useful in infantry roles :? (and they grew worse and worse from Episode 1 on). If you have so many I figure you must have the MTT as well? :)

Awesome looking tank, I especially like the delta winged shape. It actually looks a little like my hovertank...
Just one random act of violence can brighten your day. Especially if it involves explosives.

No, you're wrong dcl. I don't know what it would actually be, but I know that APCs just need to be able to carry passengers, treads or not.

A tank on wheels would probably be considered a mobile assault gun, am I right?

The Intruder is a light hovertank

Imagine a hovertank with wheels. Now that would be sweet.
