I guess whatever works for the majority, but I personally play singleplayer far more than I play on the server, and the mods are an important part of my playstyle.

I suppose I'll give juggling two .jars a shot, but if that falls through, meh.

I don't really use mods, so I don't care.
did install the bucketcontrib, but I do feel that you might want to explain the sort of things you're planning.
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

Would it be possible for me to get away with installing nothing and keeping myself strictly vanilla? I am allergic to mods of all kinds... exposure often causes me to break out into a severe rash of blue screen error.

You'll be fine- in fact, they are currently working on a new version called spoutcraft that will be more SMP mod and client friendly (due for 1.8).
