natalya..shush. Chivalry was designed to be a system of honor, but knights were tremendous assholes who like to kill people..so it didn't work too well.

This topic comes at a very fitting moment since I just returned from the Astarte camp at Camelot. We define chivalry as upholding equality, defending the rights of the weak, and serving others before you can be served.

I thought it was about not kicking your opponent in the nadgers when he isn't looking and shooting people in a knife fight, you know, stuff losers whine and moan about when they get their collective arses kicked.

@Massam: Test cancelled, my wife quite pointedly disagreed that being chivalrous made her infantilised and said if I didn't show some manners I'd be de-balled in an unfortunate accident involving hedge clippers. I guess you just can't win.

Good definition, Arkbrik. So by that reasoning, it would apply to more than just women, I guess.

@NatalyaAF: Actually, the original intent of chivalry could more accurately be described as deferential than paternal.

@Warhead: If you were ever castrated, this forum would be far less colorful. And wives make very poor test subjects for this sort of thing.
