Once, I stamped on an insect, sprayed deodorant, air freshener and water all over it's mangled corpse, whacked it a few more times. 5 Minutes later, it was still alive.

Well, knowing that roaches can survive nuclear holocausts, that doesn't surprised me, or maybe it does!
Just yesterday I stepped on one and it got thorn apart, totally squished
Apparently roaches wouldn't actually survive a nuclear holocaust. In fact, they'd be one of the first insects to die.
Research was conducted in 1959 where two scientists (Drs Wharton and Wharton) exposed an assortment of insects to radiation, and recorded how many rads it would take to kill them.
Results:
Human - 1 000 rads
Cockroach - 20 000 rads
Fruit fly - nearly 64 000 rads
Parasitic wasp - 180 000 rads
Apparently the thing that would live the longest is a bacterium called
Deinococcus radiodurans, which can live with up to 1.5 million rads when unfrozen. When frozen, its tolerance doubles.
