By the way whats the difference between metal and rock? I thought they were the same.

Rock is The Metal's father, if you will. But they are far from being the same thing. Early metal was like a rougher version of hard rock but it quickly made it as a different genre with the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). This is a generalization but Metal is usually faster, more aggressive (in terms of lyrics and instrumental), makes more use of distortion and is overall more awesome.

You can have a good time and enjoy rock (and many of the best songs are rock). Metal, however, makes you want to punch the shit out of something, headbang your brains out, and make like Warhead on Mother's Day. 'eavy met-al is about agression and pyrotechnics.
