Bizzare arguement is now a major issue, I need a way out

Postby Battlegrinder » Tue Nov 26, 2013 12:26 pm

Several years ago, my parents got me a small TV for Saturnalia. For a variety of reasons, I've never gotten much use out of it (I've used it for maybe 3 months in the 4 years since I got it), and recently I decided to sell it. For reasons beyond my comprehension, my parents are suddenly opposed to this idea, and when I brought up the topic, I found myself embroiled in an argument and effectively grounded, for no reason that I can clearly understand. At this point, I don't even care about selling the TV (though I'm now very tempted to put an ax through the screen), I just want to find a way to get out of this issue with privileges intact.
A few other facts that might help you get a picture for the situation:

-My mom has had the TV set up in the den so she can watch it while she's sewing or ironing or whatever (however, its still my TV). I offered to sell it to her first before posting an add online, but that only seemed to piss her off more.

-My parents seem to think this is some kind of disguised power play or something, since they're first reaction was to suggest deducting the cost the TV from the cost of my 1st, failed semester at college last year (something they never fail to bring up at the slightest opportunity), and my mom repeatedly called me out for "trying to make this relationship a one-to-one financial arraignment" or some other bullshit to that effect.

-Money is not an issue for my parents, so there's no cost issues or affordability problems that could be causing this.

I'm completely lost, and at the moment you people are the only ones I can talk to for advice. Please help.

My advice would be to not sell it, that way you can avoid this whole situation with your parents.

Tried that when the argument started to get out of control. Didn't work.

Tape a bow to the TV. "It's yours now, happy Thanksgiving"

Next, graduate college.

Your parents are pissed because:

1: You are trying to sell a gift that they got for you. You're an ungrateful bitch.

2: You failed your first semester at college. Should not happen.

1. It's been like 5 years, and I've never used it. What am I supposed to do with it?

2. True.

Well if your mom still uses it just let her have it

Or

Quietly sell it

Or

Say it's broken and then quietly sell it.

Yeah but news flash: it did happen. Getting all salty about it now won't fix anything, and using the TV as an outlet for all of that frustration is a terrible idea. Putting an axe through it will only escalate things.

If you don't want the TV and you can't sell it, just GIVE it to your mom. asking for money in exchange for a gift she already paid for you to have is obviously going to piss anyone off. You might not realize it, but it kindof IS a disguised power play. You got grounded because when they said no, you allowed it to escalate into an argument instead of just leaving the issue alone.

Money may "not be an issue" for your parents (which I doubt), but avoiding poor money-management skills is why this is the case.

There are two ways to go about this:
First option
1: Tie your parents back to back in your kitchen
2: Put a spatula in boiling water and tell them you'll hit them with the spatula until they agree to let you sell the tv
3: If they're stubborn assholes, you'll have to keep hitting them with the spatula as their flesh fall off their bones from the heat of the spatula
4: If they die, or agree you're right sell the tv

Second option:
1: You're an ungrateful asshole, and you should be ashamed.

I hope I helped.

But seriously, technology in general quickly becomes worthless. A 20 inch standard definition is worth next to nothing now, especially second hand. You said the TV is a few years old, and so it probably isn't worth much anyways. Also, if you failed college in the first semester you're a dumbass and should probably make sure you get around to sterilizing yourself to prevent humanity from continually getting stupid because of your genes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiocracy

Failing a first semester doesn't make one a dumbass. It's more than likely he hadn't learned proper note taking skills and didn't go to a tutor when he failed to understand the main lessons of the course. It's also possible that he could have gone through severe emotional trauma or drug addiction.

the fact that my plea for help/statement of submission is being ignored is even worse
