Re: Weaboo thread
I have no idea what this OVA is going to be about, although I saw either on Wikipedia or TvTropes that it would be set during the main characters' graduation.

Watched Madoka Rebellion. Spoilered reaction.

Brikwars Chat wrote:<colette>: I thought Rebellion would leave the same cheap taste in my mouth that I got after watching Rebuild
--- colette is back
<colette>: it beat my expectations
<Silverdream>: I told you so.
<colette>: but then again, considering it's a sequel
<colette>: my expectations were really low
<colette>: so they weren't hard to beat
<colette>: also
<colette>: Homura's fight with Mami
<colette>: was pure colette squee
<colette>: You know, I always had a doubt about whether Mami was really better than Homura
<colette>: I thought the only way to settle it would be for them to have a fight
<colette>: which I thought was unlikely or impossible
<colette>: I can finally rest assured in my firm belief that Mami is the best magical girl
<Silverdream>: Aren't you glad I didn't spoil anything?
<colette>: also Tiro Finale railtank
<colette>: I heard that Rebellion shitted all over the original series' ending
<colette>: which is true
<colette>: but I found that I didn't really care anymore by the end
<colette>: hearing about something and seeing it are entirely different
<colette>: which I guess is the general lesson of Madoka
<colette>: that being said
<colette>: the original series was still better
<Silverdream>: Yeah
<colette>: also
<colette>: Rebellion is one of the most lesbian things I've ever seen

Thoughts on Aldnoah.Zero:
It's not as great as I've been led to believe from the hype and the big-name talent working on it. There's very little to its characters, and the story is one we've all seen before. What carries the show is its awesome action, not to mention the music. The bad guys have a massive edge in technology, so the heroes have to win battles through cunning and teamwork, and every fight is a terrifyingly close call. Colette compared it to fights in the first season of Code Geass, but it's more extreme than that: it's like if Lelouch piloted an EVA.
The sad thing is, once the inevitable mid-season upgrades hit and the good guys can fight on an equal footing, the show will lose its only really unique aspect. I'm guessing the producers didn't have much of an idea beyond "herd all of the big names in anime together and make a mecha show", and my expectations aren't very high.

That's fair, but I've also heard it's two cour. If they don't have any massive twists planned, I'll be hugely disappointed.

Re: Weaboo thread
Yeah. Since it's Gen Urobichi, I suppose that Inaho and Slaine have more depth than they've let on so far. Episode 6 is up on Anime Haven, I'll watch it as soon as I'm done watching The World's End.
Stuff from this episode:

Spoiler
Show
--Asseylum reveals crucial information about Mars' technology and society, then waxes poetic about Earth--
--Inaho corrects her and spends a full minute explaining why the sky is blue and clouds are white as she tears up--
Myth Confirmed: Inaho is actually Colette.
(Especially given his attraction to Asseylum, a blonde girl who can do Magical Girl style costume transformations.)
Also, while the hint that we'll be getting more backstory reveals soon is welcome, the coincidences are really starting to pile up. On this one ship, we have:
- some emotionless supergenius kid who is the only person capable of defeating Martian mecha in a 1v1
- The princess of Mars who everyone thinks is dead
- The child of one of the conspirators who tried to assassinate her
- The only person who knows the truth about the Martian attack fifteen years ago
- The sister of a guy whose death he is apparently responsible for
AND COMING SOON:
- Apparently the only Martian who thinks of Terrans as human beings who don't deserve to be slaughtered, and who also happens to know about the conspiracy to kill the Princess and start a war

Saw the last two Aldnoah Zeros, they were great.

Although I think it's a little cliché, the writing is still good and I think the concepts (like Aldnoah drives) are really interesting. Hopefully there's going to be unpredictable twists coming up.
Also Slaine is awesome and definitely best guy.

I'm not bothered about the cliche-ness; Gen Urobichi's shows generally take a few episodes to get up to speed. And holy shit, episode 7 was awesome and actually started to hint that Inaho is more than an emotionless genius mech pilot. Also, the Hellas is Brikwars as fuck.

Re: Weaboo thread
So, I've started Pet Girl of The Sakurasou, and it's actually a pretty good series.
Imagine if Rei from NGE was completely lacking in Common Sense and could not live by herself, but actually had the tiniest bit more personality.
So, if you're not afraid of doing a lot of cringing and/or laughing, I would recommend this series.
EDIT:
If you're NOT a fan of fanservice or Ecchi, this is NOT the series for you. In the spoiler below is the most infamous example of why she can't ever live by herself:

Re: Weaboo thread
Yup. She can watch (and like) any anime that doesn't contain piloted Robots. She hates anything that has even something resembling robots in it (I believe this is because of EoE, or NGE as a whole).
