Always make sure they have RedShirts nearby. RedShirts are like disposable hero hitpoints.

After I started really understanding how to use RedShirts, I did away with the hit point system that some of the members here like. You have to be careful with your positioning or you will find your hero all alone and then dead. Good players will focus down enemies around the hero first to get rid of possible RedShirts, making the game a little more interesting. Because the Heroic Feat can be extremely powerful, it's a good idea to try to use your hero both aggressively and cautiously at the same time. Usually when you're behind in a fight, one or two good Feats can turn the tide.

If your hero died, he did his job. Never forget that.

Coming up with feats that do not instakill the hero when they fail also helps.

This is good advice. Temperate feats are often the more creative ones that lead to interesting battles (i.e. have a barbarian hero destroy bridges, smash figs careening into other figs, or war cry to spook horses) rather than opting for the simplistic "i khop da hed"!!!

Sometimes it can be hard to lose the attachment for your guys, but if you can, step back and take perspective, if your hero/heroine dies in an awesome way then his/her death was worthwhile because it made you laugh or smile, and that's what this game is all about.

Don't worry about your Heroes dying. To them, death is just a slap on the wrist</tvtropes> to remind them not to screw up.
You have the right to agree with me on any and all points. If you give up this right, anything you say can and most likely will be ignored in whole or in part.
