One drawback to using GIMP is that it does not properly import text layers from .psd files -- they get converted to raster images of text, and then you can't edit them. A few months ago, I imported the .psd template into GIMP and fixed it up into a .xcf file with editable text and a big transparent window for a model's picture. When I upload stat cards for my Solar Federation creations, they will be based on this template.
Anyway, I hope that this will make life easier for GIMP users. Feel free to use it as you like.
