my suggection would be to use the spray template out of warmachine, narrower cone but 8" long

Shotguns, flamethrowers, cone of cold, etc.
All should use any templates handy at the time as long as everyone agrees the template used is fair.
Otherwise its 6 inch long, 3 inch spread in my book.

I generally give mine the full rifle range of 12, but anything past 6" takes 1d6 of damage, as opposed to 1d8. I'm considering changing the 1d6 to 1d4, though.
