making custom lego pieces

For quite a while now, I've been thinking of making my own lego pieces. I found a simple tutorial on the net, but haven't gotten around to it yet. My two big dilemmas are that I'm broke, and legality. Is it legal to copy TLC pieces but not sell them? Or is it the selling part that's illegal?

Mostly I wanted to do it to make certain parts in other colors, and maybe copy some cut and glued pieces.


Also, if I do this, I probably won't be selling it, because it will be small operations, not official big equipment.

Eh, I'm a purist about Lego. If it ain't a TLC peice or if its broken, I ain't using it.

Then let's fix something up so that when you get arbitrarily banned for no good reason (which is the best reason really) your damn avatar doesn't get taken away. I'm on a new laptop and haven't assed myself to find a new one yet since my old one's gone, so either do it for me or stop bitching.
