Wanna get into Space and need a SHIP

Basically, I am going to make a small SteamPunk Corsair out of this - one of the SteamPunk Twins' inventions... I just need some mast top sections and design a body on top of the boat base and off I go...

Good luck. One day I'd like to do one of my microscale frigates in minifig scale as well, but it's not exactly a priority right now. How do you determine which parts you're going to need? Do you have it like drawn out of something?

I was a second life builder back in the day when you can make real money building islands for people, so I learned to think spatially and could knock together an island with a mall in about a week just off the top of my head.

I have two or three ideas floating in my head, and depending upon the parts I can get, one of them will be the final build.

I might dispense with the stern piece and put a Big #$%!ing Engine straight on the back, or I can do four engines on nacelles if I keep the stern. Either way, the body is going to be mostly brown on top of the hull with four of those windows up each side. I will slope the front and the roof, and probably build a cockpit arrangement on top much like you see on a modern aircraft carrier, but much smaller. I will have three masts on the top whatever propulsion I do at the back, with sails and rigging and shit just because I can. Think Captain Harlock's ship for that idea.

The primary colours will be brown and dark red, with details in black and dark grey. Wherever possible I will sneak in little baroque elements and maybe some gold trim pieces here and there. Need to get a brown minifig with female yellow face for a nuddy figurehead too...

Another thing I could do is a three-deck catamaran arrangement. We shall see...

The main deck seems a little too bare for me. Maybe try adding some more dakka or something to make it less flat?

I think you should keep the stern, and arrange the four engines at the back in an X pattern. Also, don't forget to add some sort of ramming blade-like object to the bow.
