Space marine because I have always liked spacesuited people with giant swords and a small shield.

I'd go with space marine right away, but mostly because I played 40k for about 5 years, and played Halo twice.

But I think we should compare ALL their weapons.

Bolter vs. SMG - clear winner is the bolter
Bolt pistol vs. Magnum - bolt pistol is also the clear winner
Lascannon vs. Spartan laser - I'm gonna have to give this one to the lascannon, it just seems to have more armour piercing capability
Grenades - Spartan wins on this one. Marines have frag and krak grenades, Spartans have frag ( i think), plasma, and sticky grenades. Although in Apocalypse any army could have a vortex grenade, which is a portable black hole, but I think we should leave Apocalypse out of this.
Power sword vs. Beam sword - I think these are pretty evenly matched, but I'm gonna give this one to the power sword due to its shape. It's shaped like an actual sword, so it's a lot easier to wield, as well and attack and block with.
Missile launchers - again, evenly matched, but I think Space Marines win by a nose here. Why? Because they have frag AND krak missiles, which might not come in handy in a 1v1 battle, but it's still an advantage overall. Also, the newer miniatures with missile launchers have a backpack that sports an automatic loading arm, as well as like 7 missiles or something (I never actually counted them though)

Now I may be just be going on memory here, but I think Marines still win this one. Oh and one more thing: a Space Marine's armour is bigger than them, so I'm guessing they'd have a big armour advantage over a Spartan.

In a straight-out, 1-on-one fight, the space marine would win. Now weapons, not armor, not cybernetic alterations.

Spartans are chosen among many billions of people to be the best.
Space Marines are Cloned from the best of the best. then made the best.

and after that, the space marines are older and more experienced than spartans.

so even without armor and weapons, the space marines kick ass.

Worst of all are the excitable sales staff. Where do they find these people? I think they kidnap Hari Krishna folk at the airport and brainwash them.

Yeah, I witnessed all these people, ESPECIALLY the little 8 year olds who want to show off their randomly glued together minis with 10 mismatched arms and clumps of multicoloured paint.

But there were quite a few veterans who came to the same gaming store, and had amazing stuff. But as mentioned, none of them said anything about it unless you asked to see them.

Also the store was run by surprisingly nice sales staff, the kind you easily make friends with (probably cause it's not an actual GW store). They'd help you out a lot and play against you to help build your army and/or strategies. They also participated in tournaments sometimes. One of them actually contacted me on Facebook saying I hadn't been to the store in a while. Nice people.

I'll probably go back to playing 40k soon, it's a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday.

Have I ever posted about going into the GW stores with an innocent expression and asking "why don't you just play it with Legos?" I do it maybe once a year, just to watch the whack-job GW employees froth at the mouth.

Then I tell Lego employees about it later, and they start frothing because I said "Legos."

ok i have read all you posts and i have to correct some MAJOR mis understandings about spartans and marines

6:space marines are from the year 40k....BUT there was a VERY large dark age where tons of tec was lost and then they all had to start over...

7: spartan armor is very tough....it has a super hard titanium layer then a ultra tough crystil layer that HAS STOPPED AN ENERGY SWORD! (i think it was in the fall of reach) plus it has the shielding...the armor could deflect bullets before it had shielding

8:space marine weapons are better in all most every way....BUT a spartan would just take there weapons and use it against them (they did it all the time with the covanents better weapons)

9: spartans have TONS of augmentations just like the marines.....not as much but all the realy great ones


10: to warhead: i have gone into a gw store and saw little fat drooling(no joke) kids SCREEMING at each other over the rules and then found a dude who had the best IG army i have ever seen( they had SWEET striped camo that would have taken me hours to do to one modal)so im right there with you
