Upon watching a small portion of the popes visit today - I couldn't help but notice something . . . there are small symbols on his clothing that are supposed to represent the holy trinity, that looked a lot like something else . . .

If I had to guess, I would say the three crosses on his mantel represent the father, son, and holy ghost (the three members of the Trinity). Each cross by itself is just a cross. Of course that is just a guess.

Maybe the three of them represent the holy trinity but I have no idea why the symbols them selves look like that.

Because the church uses St. John's Crosses as symbols for the crucifix I would imagine?
