I don't think you can distinguish the gods from the non-gods until you assign what they're the gods of. That's the only way to know which are the real gods (Jimi Hendrix is the god of guitars) and which are merely lesser mythological figures and worshippers (Van Halen, Jack White, etc.).

This is definitely true. I'll start us off, feel free to correct any stupid mistakes.

Guitar: Hendrix
Drums: Keith Moon
Singing: Freddy Mercury
Piano/Organ: I think this should be whoever plays organ for Boston, go listen to Smokin' and Foreplay/Long Time.

There should also be a god of all-around awesome, who can do pretty much everything. This would be a contest between Dave Grohl and Jack White for sure, although I think Jack would win.

I was going to put that, but then I thought about it, and I think Keith Moon would beat him out by a little. Neil is still my favourite drummer though.

Most of my Maniacs were made in the early beginnings of my Heavy Metal ACDC/Iron Maiden etc etc phase. In fact I made a Maniac called Lemmy from Motorhead and I'm sure one of the bints is called Iron Maiden. I think the Maniacs would be in open to the influences of Metal could become uber violent and even more unpredictable.

Although I also listen to Queen and Hendrix, and while I think they belong with some of the greatest of artists I also think they are mostly too mellow to include as hard core metal IMO.

AC/DC
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Nirvana
Slayer
Pantera
Metalica
Faith No More (early on)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (early on)
Ministry
Nine Inch Nail (Fist Fuck - best song)
Rage Against The Machine
Prodigy

To name but a few.

The thing about Hendrix is that even if he's less metal, his stage presence makes him easier to mythologize than some of the alternatives. The last thing we need is boring gods.

Keith Moon would have been my pick for greatest human drummer also, but he doesn't have the deific mythological flair of a character like one-armed Rick Allen or Animal from the Muppets. Dave Grohl is a funny alternative because he turns into Beelzeboss.

As long as we're talking about Lemmy, here is a shot of me with a Lemmy mustache.

I only kept it for a week or so, but my girlfriend thought it was the best thing ever.

Don't forget there need to be evil gods as well. I think Gaga has taken the God of WTF role away from Marilyn Manson and all his genre clones, for instance.

 Ok, first of all I lol'd, thanks for that. Secondly, you can't be a bad ass even with the Lemmy Handlebars and beard when your struggling not to burst with laughter. I'm getting more River boat card sharp gigolo than a Lemmy vibe, but it's close. Maybe add a mole and bad teeth. I like the T-Shirt.

Evuul Metal Gods?
