Piracy

It really is a plague. It seems to me the bigger bands are still able to pull through but it really makes it hard for smaller bands to survive. Example:

Recently Dushan Petrossi, the songwriter of one of my favourite bands Iron Mask published this on his Facebook:

‘With a heavy heart, I’m forced to sell a few of my guitars, interested guitarists; mail me here. How the f. can we stop those illegal downloadings and all this internet free sharings? You won’t get any music soon, at least not from me…’

I’m pretty sure he’s not alone, this is bad for music in general if artists can’t survive if they don’t go mainstream. I’m not saying they should all be rich be but a guy who is quite widely praised for his guitar-playing skills should at least be able to get by with his music… I think it’s pretty sad.

Yeah, im gonna be the first to say it sucks, but A. thats the risk, that should be known from the start B. i can say this because even though i "pirate" music, i use YT downloader and DL stuff i like, not like im hacking his site, taking what i want, then GTFOing and giving it to other, i keep the shit i DL of YT to myself. besides, more than 80% of the music i listen to i can get for free or is videa game music that isn't sold anyways. i mean fuck, the biggest thing i EVER pirated is from a company i hate, and thats Win7.

I like to support the bands I like by buying the music. Sure, it's expensive if you want alot of music, but hey, things have a price in life. If we all pirated, there wouldn't be any musicians left.

you, sir, are a douche. I for one don't pirate music, I don't really use my ipod that much, so when I do want to get a song I pay for it. Usually though I just listen to pandora.

Most of the music I download was made by very successful bands before I was born. If I wished to support an aspiring musician I would gladly buy their music.

Also, why do people call it piracy? It has nothing to do with non-state actors seizing ships.

There are many bands that make most of their money off of touring. The record companies are the ones that lose out the most because of pirating.
