Shield Guns

Has anyone ever thought of this? Shields that have a gun barrel poking through the middle, allowing for an assault rifle to be fired with cover at the expense of lacking aim(maybe a small slit) and fast movement.

Just thought it was a cool and hopefully original idea.

Essentially, you're adding a thin sheet of metal between you and the enemy at the cost of mobility and maneuvering. To present any sort of barrier, the gun would have to be pointed directly at the enemy in a certain cone of fire, meaning that in an urban environment, the tradeoff would not be equal. Trench warfare, however....

Hey, remember how we were talking about WWI plate armor a while back? There's an exhibit in the Kansas City WWI museum about it, with some examples, I wasn't able to get pictures though.

In short, a riot shield with the gun attached. Why not just use a clear bulletproof material then?

because in the kinds of situations where such a shield is usefull,
you need stronger materials than clear plastic, since you're not just dealing with handpistols anymore.

I made some shield guns in LEGO form, haven't decided whether I want to make a unit of them or not.

Possibly a brikwars shield gun would give 1/3 cover, at the expense of -1 skill and -1 move?

But that is disadvantageous.
It should give as much cover as it actually gives and the size of the shield would count toward a minifigs carrying capabilities.
If a minifig can carry a 2x3 brick easy then the shield gun shouldn't be such an issue weight wise.

Silver, almost every military fighting vehicle nowadays is equipped or built with firing slots and turrets that allow the gunner/passenger to fire his weapon (mounted or not) from it with considerable protection from enemy light weapon fire (altough more advanced and well funded armies have remote controlled turrets that can be fired from within the vehicle). APCs, recon vehicles, most tanks, etc... So its a good idea, but not a new one.

APCs, recon vehicles, most tanks, etc... So its a good idea, but not a new one.

But this is more portable. Say you're in a hallway bloking the only exit. A shield gun will make you near invincible.

Depends how big the hallway is. But yes, flamethrowers always provide a good anti-infantry/anti-vehicle defence. Perhaps there could be a water jet mounted on the shield?
