Yes the cable is fine, I know because the iPod still responds by charging up when connected to the PC. And yes, the hub is working with other devices.
Then it sounds a lot like a driver or software fault of some kind to me.

I don't know much about apple products but try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers.
if that doesn't work you could try running it in compatibility mode (if there is that on an apple computer)
otherwise try contacting customer support and maybe they can help.
