Banks vs Credit Unions

I just signed up with a local credit union. I should get approved in a day or two. But yeah, the whole debit card fee debacle made me realize -- why support some shitty bank that is going to use my money to lobby against me and my rights in congress when I could instead join an institution that is not-for-profit and ostensibly owned by the members and therefore privy to their needs and interests? I mean, my bank backed away from doing the debit card fees this month but just the thought that they would try that underhanded crap pisses me off.

Credit unions are great, I switched over to one about a decade ago and never looked back. No fees, great interest rates, and they funnel their profits back to the accountholders rather than to wall street.

I switched a few months ago for similar reasons. So far, my credit union has been better than Bank of America in every way. Also, all of the credit unions cooperate, so if you are a credit union member, you can withdraw from any CU's ATM surcharge-free.
