The minifig series 3x4 baseplates seem to be very convenient for achieving a half-way house between a stud fest and a completely tiled surface, as per the roof of your truck. Having said that, my favourite part is where the overhang really gives it its shape. I couldn't tell you why, but smaller builds with character like this one seem as impressive as the more generic ones that are three times bigger.
