Steampunk help.

Okay, so, got a few minifigs together and figured that they would look pretty nice with a steampunk thing and wanted some input on what you guys thought would be a nice addition to this army.

So far I have:

- Three infantrymen with powder muskets and/or flintlock pistols along with pickaxes.
- Three Battle Droids with machine guns (thought they would be kind of neat with a steampunk army).
- Three other guys who pilot:
- A big, armored jeep. It has room in the back to carry some people and a gun mounted over the driver.
- A hardsuit in which one of the figures fits that has a chainsaw arm and a cannon arm.

Now I have a lot that I want to do with this army. I'll put some things down that I was thinking of doing, and you guys can build off of that and tell me what you think. Before you answer though, know that I like my creations to be unified and not THAT far-fetched. So please keep your answers within the realms of Steampunk (if possible) and within some reason, or I'll just ignore them

- A monkey. I have a monkey, he's brown just like all of the uniforms my guys have now; I want to use him. What use could a monkey be? Just to hang out on the jeep, or something more?

- I have 6 minifigs in green outfits that look kind of steampunkish as well. I'll definitely make a few of them infantry, but what else? Perhaps a steampunk copter?

- Explosives. I need more explosives, so any ideas how I can incorporate that more?

- More robots, perhaps? If I did, human-sized or a tad bit bigger?

- Finally, what do you think of other races in steampunk? I have Chewbacca and two Ewoks that I would put full-size legs on to make a race of monkey-like people or just fuzzy people. What do you think about having aliens or fantasy races in steampunk, and what could they do?

Yea, I looked a bit on Brickshelf, I was seeing what you guys would have for ideas, too, though. I really have an army right now, just wanted to add a bit more.

The explosive monkey sounds fun, I'll think on that one.

The first few are of the hardsuit; closed, open, guns, and back. It was inspired by those that were posted a couple days ago. Not as cool, but still kinda posable.

I looked through a lot of steampunk stuff on Brickshelf, but I really wanted to see some armies people had; because of my OCD I like things to match.

ok, in order:

I dunno about the battle droids. The only way to really make them steam punkish would be to have them be made of copper and have large smokestacks attached to their backs. Also cables.

Chainsaw hardsuit guy is awesome. I picture it to be like a medieval suit of armor with modifications.

The leader of the army must have one of the following: eye patch, monocle, large grotesque facial scar, fancy mustache in order to be steampunk. The monkey can be his trusty pet.

6 green minifigs would make a good airship crew.

once you make the airship, give it cannons, and a catapult that launches lit sticks of dynamite. (That would also come in handy on a jeep). Also, railway cannons are very explosive and very steampunk.
make at least one crazed pyro-technician player who tosses homemade grenades at people. He could also have a peg leg.

other races would totally be awesome.

this is exactly what i was thinking. if you have any of those pirate-ship parts (you know, the giant bow and stern), basically attach those to some propellers and baloons and make it look like it can fly. monkeys also work well on airships in basically the same way they work on pirate ships. you could even give him a small biplane or pistol or something to flesh him out as a character!

although, i'd have to agree with ben on the battledroids as well. one thing you may consider is taking them and "de-teching" them. as in, see if you have battle droid arms in different colors and mis-matching them for the "built from scrap/rusted metal" look, and if you can find little control panels with lots of dials and clock-looking things on them, it'd be a good idea to attach those on that back stud.

other races in steampunk is where you bridge the gap between sci-fi and fantasy. it's acceptable, but realize that you're taking that route. other races in steampunk tend to be mythical beasts and not aliens, so be prepared to accept dragons and unicorns as normal occurances.

Okay, thanks for the input, guys. I think I've had a little bit more sci-fi-like steampunk in mind, kind of like an older "Hellboy" (just some of the things of course). I was also thinking a kind of "Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow" type look or a "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen". So not so much ACTUAL steam-powered, but just the old, gritty look.

I'll try to see if I can put some smokestacks or at least some controls on the back of the Battledroids. Probably just some controls, kind of like the cyborg/clockwork guy in "Hellboy".

No boat pieces. Uhm, perhaps a 'copter? Still sort of airship-like, but more condensed. It would have a ship cannon on it, of course.

For the extra green guys; maybe another jeep or some motorcycles or something. I think that would be kind of neat.

And for Chewbacca and the Ewoks who are now the height of minifigs... A portable cannon crew? Big, single person cannons sound kind of neat.

I'd still recommend an airship. if you don't have POOP boat pieces, enough brown and gray pieces can come together to make a good looking ship, and it'll be easy to build some turbine engines right into the hull!

Well, too late, 'cause I just build myself a 'copter. It's got a big, rotatable cannon on the front and a storage place in the back for explosives to be thrown.

Now I think I'm going to either make a jeep or a couple motorcycles and then a couple cannons for the fuzzy people to use. ktBombshell also found her Legos and my friend is hopefully going to be selling me his because he was never that big of a fan. Maybe I'll find a few more to add to the army.

ktBombshell does have a Triceratops and a Stegosaurus. Maybe I can use those? The fuzzy people could be dinosaur wranglers!

One more thing you can do to the battle droids is to remove their heads and replace them with a single 1x1 upright holder plate with a colored light on the bottom. It gives the droids a sort of cyclops look. It'll look less star warsy and more steampunky that way.

The pilot to the 'copter is a pirate, so I guess it's an airship? The monkey is going to be in the back, throwing the explosives out.

EDIT: Put new heads on the Battle Droids, did what you said Adean, but just plain, circular, grey, 1x1's instead of colored. I also put their arms on upside-down (so the skinny part was their shoulder and the thick part is their hand) and put a grey 1x1 square on their studs.

Also an amphibious vehicle would be sweet.
Edit: Also the ewoks and wookies could be the genius' experiments/abominations.
