This year, for NaNoWriMo, I have decided to do a work of speculative fiction (I know it sounds stuffy and ridiculous, just bear with me). Now, speculative fiction is a work of fiction that poses a simple question to the reader: "what if". In this particular instance...
"What if Victorian Era technology had been invented during the Early Classical Greek Era?"
I'm imagining Athenians riding around on tiny combustion-engine tanks, wielding javelins tipped with compressed steam-explosives. And that's only the beginning.
So, I decided (since planning week wasn't here yet, and I'm so pumped to get started) that I should sort of test-drive the setting; see if it's usable at all. I find it quite easy to work with, surprisingly enough, and have already churned out a rather telling bit of stuff.
Enjoy.
A couple more things to note:
- Check back on the same link if you're interested; it will update every now and then as I write more.
- All of my major research on Greek an Victorian stuffs will take place during the last week of October (officially known as planning week), so please understand if my descriptions of certain things get quickly glazed over or what-not.
Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm essentially looking less for critique on the writing itself and more the FEEL. The moods, themes, and motifs, for all you other AP English-ites out there. I want to see if I'm sending the proper message. it's kind of difficult for me alone to judge these sorts of things.
Thank you again!
