Mechanix

Postby Evil Wayne » Sun Jul 13, 2008 12:35 am

So, I'm only 2+ years late and getting this in,
but I finally finished my version of the Mechanix.

Image

I didn't really have a background and I've been racking
my brain trying to come up with one. So I copped out
and went with concrete and blood. It's not as fun as Adean's,
so it's not going to win any awards, but it is finally done.

Now you'll have to find some one else to fulfill your
sadist needs—I'm looking at you IVhorseman...

Here's an image of the full fig. Yeah, I made the whole
thing, because I'm not just a card-carrying member of
the OCD club for men, I'm the flipping president.

[EDIT 07.15.08]
Okay, I fixed the end of the wrench this morning.
However, I didn't notice the text issue that feuer_faust
pointed out, so I'll see about getting to that correx tonight.

And, for everybody's favorite sadist, Ivhorseman, I've
posted a blank card:

Image

I left it totally blank, however, I can fill in any of stats or
text if you want, just let me know (and I'm sure I'll get to
it sometime between now and Astarte... 2018).

Why is the wrench painted differently from everything else?

Okay, you know how sometimes you're too damn close to notice the trees for the forest? I did the wrench part months and months ago. I think I was messing around with the different brushes in Painter and I made the inside of the wrench; I think I thought it looked cool, like stripped, worn, metal and then just left it alone.

I've been looking at it for so long, I don't think I saw it as possibly looking completely out of style with the rest of it. Even now, I don't. But probably looking at it with fresh eyes, not to mention a trained painter's, you probably see it as ridiculous?

I can go back and change it if you think it looks too retarded. I should just do it. :P

*le sigh*

Yes.
I think those stats only apply to non-Mexicans.

Well, It's an honor then to be called a sadist by someone who plays 2001 rules by choice.

It's tough deciding which stat card image I'm liking between yours and Adean's. They're both great, and I'd have to see Adean's final composition to decide, but this is tough. Overall scene? Adean's is a bit more interesting. Hilarious pose/disposition? You've got it down.

EDIT: Do you by any chance have a no-text version of this card? I'd like to update it to the 2005 rules we came up with for Mechanix, what with the putting on patches and making new vehicles from scratch.

You do that Wayne? Awesome! I do too. I printed them all out, and put them in a binder. They are so much better than the 2005 rules.

I have a Photoshop file that's akin to the template card (it is the template card), so I post that, I can't remember how big it is, but I can merge some of it down to make it smaller. Or do you want another file version like a flat jpg?

Yeah, we only use the 2001 rules. They're more "robust" and appeal to those members who enjoy such things as calculating the delta-v of launching vipers from a freefalling Galactica (I kid you not).

It really helps to take Physics, doesn't it? I prefer to calculate hull stress on my F-23s, but that's just me.

Dig the mechanik, looks very... accurate. I would put this forward, though: for surly, I think it's "lest they recieve" instead of "less they recieve" at the end there. :)

the mustachio is perfect, and I'm liking the blowtorch that extends out of the picture. My one complaint is that he isn't greasy enough. Real Mechanix are at their happiest when covered in oil and grease stains. Very nice job on the artwork though, the style actually looks similar to Mike's (but not too similar).

I like it. I'll have to agree with Rayhawk in that the wrench kind of threw me off when I first saw it. It distracts from the rest of the picture. However, I think the character is well represented. He seems ready to leap into action, shouting in a Macgyver-like fashion: "Screwdriver!", "Monkey-Wrench!", "Tube-sock!", "Elbow Grease!".

I'll finish mine eventually. Hopefully won't take me as long. However Procrastination is my middle name. I'll have to edit it to make it work for the card. Anyways, good job on the card. I'm glad that you were able to finish it.
