Ascending to Moderator status is like acquiring a title, it can't be gained by asking for it.
Although, I allegedly asked for it in IRC chat (and acquired it, as you can see), but it was actually someone pretending to be me, so I'm not entirely sure.

My understanding is that these moderator assignments are random and for nothing more than simple amusement. It is because of such that I'm not going to become too attached to it. I'll enjoy it while I have it, though
