A problem

Post by Cpl. Halan » Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:36 pm

Ladies, Gentlemen, and the rest of you, we have a problem. Infantry die like flies to high explosives. This doesn't work, not for Brikwars. Brikwars is supposed to glorify mass murder, this doesn't happen when 90% of the soldiers on the battlefield are wiped out without a second thought. Infantry needs to last longer so battles don't turn into slugging matches between tanks. Any advice? And if your advice is "shut up you whiny bastard" get the fuck outta my thread

You see, your problem is that you're not using enough infantry.

Shut up you whiny bastard.

Use more infantry/less explosives. Or lower explosives damage, or raise their UR>

Spread your mini-figs out more so the blast only takes out one or two men. It helps if the battlefield is bigger.

Sounds like your ground-pounders need air support (nothing like a bit of old-fashioned carpet bombing to quieten down that pesky artillery)

Reminds me of Gears of Way (sorry Gears of War - my crappy typing...)
"Will we have air support sir"
"Son, you ARE the support"

Alternatively, you may want to play out a scenario where the use of heavy weapons is strictly limited on both sides (although that does rather smack of gun-control...), or play with a lot of scenery to block the blast effects and have the little guys keep their heads down (as the saying goes "The more terrain, the better the game").

I usually just give one guy a grenade launcher and send him off on his own.

Yeah, my grenade launchers go to heavies and ossifers(officers, it's real milspeak slang, you don't trust me look it up)
OK here are the main ideas I see:
use more infantry(I can't field more than 40ish infantry w/o stripping vehicles of their crews)
Use APCs(I can't, all my parts are going to my SHIP and I don't have many to spare)
Spread out troops(with troops spread out to individuals, the game slows down like hell)
use less explosives(There really aren't that many, any explosive is brutal)
Use air/armor support(only for larger battles, besides tanks can't fit everywhere)

I go for old style and just use small grenades.

it's better with stuff like buzzsaw cars that rip figs in half (the blood will get you suspended from school)

He said he doesn't like it when his soldiers get murdered. Which means he follows the anorakish belief that winning is important.
