LEGION stats- over powered or right?

Post by lrdofbricks » Sun Aug 29, 2010 9:05 pm

legionnaire
cost- 8 cp
skill- 1d6+1
move- 3 inches
armor- 8 (10)
legion training (4cp)- legionarres sacrifice a lot of their movement to gain several benifits, which are as follows
*sheildwall- whenever a legionaire is within three inches of another sheild- using legionaire, he gains +2 armor
*polarm training- legionaires can use their longspears with one hand without suffering penalties
*never defenseless- when a legionarre loses his spear, he automatically draws his sword
*legion discapline- legionarres can always act like they have an officer, and squad adjustments cost no actions.

equipment-
*large sheild- +4 armor- 2cp
*longspear- 2d6 dmg- 3cp
shortsword- 1d6 damage- 1 cp

TOTAL COST- 14CP

i hope that the reduced speed and the cost balances those benifits. i will also, if neccassary, deny them the ability to use the angry inch. the sheild rules are based on 2001, cuz their sheilds are huge and need to be better then regular crownie sheilds

Seems fairly balanced, but there should be a bigger penalty for not being near another legionnaire. Maybe -1 to damage?

I'd also remove the bit about the officer.

What was the goal you had in mind?
Did you want "Super Troopers" or just professional line troops?

i wanted to formulate a troop that has a slight edge over other troops, thats mostly becuase of discipline and teamwork compared to just raw power.

Now, I'm assuming the force you're going to be fighting is also pre-gunpowder. (If not, correct me.)

The only these would be fair is the other side had a hook of their own be it mass grunts, berserkers, special cavalry or siege equipment.

of course, the other side has overstrengthed orks, hard-to-kill skelatons, and ridicoulisly heavily armored cavarly.... and horseriding golden katana weilding samuri
they also outnumber the legion about 3 to 1, which is why the legion needs to be able to endure a lot of combat

I agree, these are good to go given your goals and the forces you will face. :D

If thats the case, then I would just make 2 versions of the stats
1: a nerfed version for even battles
2: the one you have here for uneven battles.
