Custom Weapons Stats, finaly made easy(er)!

Post by mm233 » Tue Oct 19, 2010 2:48 pm

To start off here are the different stat modifiers:

+2" Range = +1 CP
+2 Damage = +1 CP
-1 UR = +1 CP
Note: Formulas work with the signs (+'s and -'s) change to the opposite sign as well.

Working Example - Pistol to Rifle

This example will show you how a rifles stats are made from pistol stats, using this system. To start you must know the pistol stats:

Range:6"
Damage:1d6
UR:3
CP:3

But a rifle has 10" of range, not 6". We must add 4" more to it to have rifle range stats, which also adds 2 CP, making the total 5 CP, the standard cost of a rifle. But what about the +1 in the damage of the rifle? Well, since 1 CP adds 2 damage, only 0.5 CP is added to the total, which is then rounded down(unless we are going to add more to the stats), to an even 5 CP. The final stats look like this:

Range:10"
Damage:1d6+1
UR:3
CP:5

When making custom weapon stats, its a good idea to start with a basic, premade set of stats to build off of. I usually use the pistol, as it's the most basic you can get. If your making a CC weapon, ignore the range stat modifier and just use the damage and possibly the UR modifiers, and use the hand weapons stats as a base (because the others are based off it to).

Final Notes: This is still a WIP as I have to wait for the 2010 rules to come out for the special weapon abilities. Also this is completely based off the Official Rules and is only a broken down version of the weapons.
I think this is basically the system that RayHawk used for all that, so I only take credit for the post. :)

1. I already did this before, with the exact same costs.
2. Every increase in range or damage has to increase use rating as well.
3. This only works up to the level of a size 3 weapon.

6.All lists start with 6, remember?
7.Well how was I supposed to know that? :)
8.Unless you pay extra to keep it how it is(or just FUDGE that part :D )
9.That's one thing I I didn't put in because some people here make really big guns for there troops. This is supposed to be flexible.

CrazyHorse: Read the last paragraphs. :)

0. Lists can start at 6 if they want to; they don't have to.
1. You could have checked the archives of this and bonus material, but it doesn't really matter either way.
2. Yes, you can pay more to reduce the use rating, but every addition to a weapon that makes it better needs to also add to the use rating. A weapon with +2 to damage, even though it's 1CP more, should be harder to shoot. This is what makes the use ratings go up on the actual chart (I'll explain more below).
3. It still isn't balanced for adding on to any gun bigger than 2". You can't use these additions to a gun that starts as a size 3 or bigger. However, these are more for customizing minifig weapons.

Back to #2. If you look at weaponry Chapter 7 (in 2005 rules, not 2010 because the weapons aren't done there yet), these are mostly based off of this chart. All the regular minifig weapons can be made from this chart.

The differences between a size 1 gun and a size 2 gun are:
3 CP
1 Use
3 Inches
4 Damage (1d6)
So first, the range difference should be 3" instead of 2". That makes it so it follows this chart. You were right for the damage to be +2 for 1CP though, as well as all the changes being 1CP each.

But, these three things (+3" range, +2 damage, and +2 damage) make the use rating go up by 1. Now the differences between size 1 and size 3:
6 CP
2 Use
6 Inches
8 Damage (2d6)
So now we have 6 additions (+3", +3", and four +2 damage) and the Use goes up 2. A little math shows:
+3" range = 1/2CP
+2 damage = 1/4CP
So you can use this formula and round your result to get any number of combinations. I would usually round up to keep it balanced.

OneEye: Ok, I see what your getting at. Like I said on the first post, this is still a WIP, so your input is completely welcome. Ill try adding some of what you said to what I have now. :)

Did you seriously just make that up? It's actually in a thread, you know.
More Rules Thread wrote:Rule 6: Numbered lists can start on 6 if they want to.
This makes it look like it's part of a bigger list, which is useful if you want people to think you've done more work than you actually have.

If I'm correct, This:

OneEye, I am currently working on adding your idea about the UR going up after a certain number of modifiers are added. I will post the modified version once i complete that.

Also, anyone think we should add this (or other system) to the wiki?
