I highly recommend against leg removal. I had a phase when I was about 14 of doing it way too much, and now a ton of my minifigs can't stand up straight.

yes, I only use when I desperately want different colour legs.
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

I think Lego's improved the minifig leg connections quite a bit over the years, it seems like the newer ones hold up a lot better under removing and reattaching than they used to.
