Cannon

Postby Tzan » Wed Jan 19, 2011 12:45 pm

I mentioned I made a cannon in highschool a while back.
I dug it out of its box, dusted it off and took some pictures.

The gun carriage is 2.25 inches long.
The wood has no fasteners, just friction.

Yes it does.

You can slide a firecracker in the barrel and the fuse goes out the touch hole.
There is just enough room to put a pebble in the end of the barrel.

When you fire it the whole thing flips backwards about 12". :)

I never did a proper range test, but I know the rock hit a shed 20 feet away.

Your cannon is much cooler than me and my friend's PVC pipe rock launcher.

Correct!

I used the metal lathe at high school. It was the first and last thing I made with it.

The teachers were always looking out to see if someone was making a smoking pipe. I was one of the good kids, so I didn't get hassled as I was drilling out the barrel.

Aaah! Halcyon days.

I always found it funny the Wood and Metal work teachers were all missing some body part or other. They were like the most vivid warning not to work with machines I've ever come across.

Ah yes, I remember doing this once with my friends ancient air rifle, we blew up some airfix models that we just spent a few days building. It was worth it though.
