When you die in story mode in Timesplitters 2, the retry menu has the scariest sounds I've ever heard.

I`m currently playing through the old Ocarina of Time on the N64, as I never got the Chance years ago, and I admit that the Shadow Temple freaked me out because I entered every new room wondering what ungodly monstrosity was going to try to eat my brains next. All I can say about the 3DS version is that they must have censored the heck out of it, because across the whole of that game, it had no right to be rated E.

No, I'm talking about Zork.

You're telling me that "Zork: Nemesis" is not as scary as the first Zork?

I dunno... Grues are pretty terrifying....
Nemesis was more just kind of eerie than scary.
The Myst series are some good survival/ horror games with fucking epic boss fights and tons of blood and gore.

The scariest game I've played has to be Dead Space, though.
Dead space? is not scary. At all. What so ever. It had its moments, when something would jump out at you, but otherwise it felt like just another mindless shooter, in 3rd person obviously. you are right in that penumbra is fucking scary. its scary mostly because you can't really defend yourself.
Holy shit, I'm still here?

I'm not the one jumping at everything just because something jumped at him.

Yume Nikki is the scariest game I've ever played. Almost all of it takes place inside the main character's dreams. And boy does she have messed up dreams.

The game is free, so you have no reason not to play it... but don't do it right before going to bed.

Now you see that I have not played many horror games. :)

Also, I heard that the new game from Frictional Games, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, was even scarier than the penumbra games.

Holy guacamole this game is freaky as all shit! I had to step away from it a couple of times... just couldn't handle it. The elementary school... total horror mind fuck... I mean it's right out of the scariest movies I've ever seen. Then, just when you don't think it could get any worse, your flashlight stops working.... nice....

SPOILER AHEAD... if you're gonna play the game don't read the next paragraph...

Then down in this freaky scientific lab I'm talking to this nerd about how stuff went down... crazy freak monkey drops from the ceiling, grabs one shoulder, grabs his head, and rips it off right in front of me.... just to freak you out even more... later on you come into a dark room and see "oh neat, some armor!.... oh fuck... dudes head is sitting right by it...." you panic and pan around looking for freak monkey thing.... you KNOW it's close... cuz dudes head is here.... but where is it?! WHERE IS IT?!

Well I just finished FEAR 2... wow... holy fucking shit... easily one of the best games I've ever played. The plot did get better as it unfolded. The ending was really freak'n cool. It was like being IN a really good horror / sci-fi movie as the badass hero.

Highly recommend getting this game. If you haven't played the first then do so as the 2nd one really is an extension of the first. FEAR 1 is a great game too so it's not like you have to play some shitty game just to understand the plot.

Can't wait to play F3AR! Based on how well the last 2 were and the fact that John Carpenter (note: Christine & Big Trouble in Little China Town) helped with it... I anticipate it being wicked awesome!
