Confused about armor

Post by redmike512 » Sat Aug 20, 2011 5:20 pm

Can someone clear up armor for me?

We've played two very simple initial games, and it seems like armor is amazingly powerful.

Base armor for a fig is 4, so it takes a 5-6 damage to kill one, right?
But if a fig adds armor, then armor is 4+1d6? (The card just says 1d6, but that doesn't make any sense, since 1d6 on average is less than 4, so armor would be a bad thing...) So how can a regular weapon kill a guy in armor? It takes a great roll (a 6) against the worst armor roll (a 1), for a total of 6 vs 5 for an attacker to win.

Am I doing something wrong? I saw the 2010 rules seem to have changed armor from 1d6 to +2, but that works out pretty much the same way, I think?

Body Armor is +2 in the 2005 rules as well. It seems that you're looking at the creation rules, not Chapter 3 where Body Armor is explained.

Technically, a Minifigure's Armor Value is 1d6. With bonus dice from rolling a 6, the average roll comes out to be 4.2 or something. The basic Minifigure just has a value of 4 because it's expected that you'll be using a lot of them, and instead of rolling Armor every time they're hit, just use 4 instead of 1d6 and it will save some time.

With Body Armor, a basic Minifigure would have an Armor Value of 4+2, or 6. If you want to roll, a basic Minifigure has an Armor Value of 1d6 according to the MoC Creation rules, or 1d6+2 with Body Armor.

I checked out both rules and saw nothing saying armor is rated with a d6 roll. Body Armor adds +2 Armor to the equipped minifig, meaning, it takes 7 or more damage to kill it. Not forgetting that its gets a 1" penalty to movement and adds 1 CP.

I think he was looking at the armor under Creation Weapons, which is 1d6 Armor to an area if I remember.

Just have multiple minifigs team up on the armored one. Not even a suit of power armor can stand up to a full squad of ten troops armed with assault rifles.....just sayin'....

Get a big robot and just stomp them into the ground. Works every time.
BrikThulhu eats 1d6 minifigs each turn.

If you're having problems with killing armoured guys you should do the following:

1.Check if it is a tank.
If yes: Check if it a big tank. (If yes, and your stuck with crap weapons call in support, or kamikazae.)
(If no: Blow up/capture it.)

If no: See question 2.

2.Check if you have a tank.
If yes: What are you waiting for? BLOW THAT BASTARD UP!

If no: Who cares anyway, just maul him to death using your tap dancing midgets (care should be employed to ensure the midgets have steel heel caps on their tap shoes before commencing death by midget).

I hoped this solved your problem.

Teaming up

Post by redmike512 » Wed Aug 24, 2011 6:41 pm

I'm playing with my 6 year old son, so while I personally appreciate the silly solutions, they're not going to work for my situation. I need to find an easy, understandable mechanic. The teaming up will do the trick, so thank you for that.

Thanks also for the correction on the armor value. While +2 is still a lot (making it take 6 damage to kill an armored fig), it's way better than what we were doing. I don't know what I was looking at to get the wrong idea.

Keep in mind that your attacks will also be subject to potential bonus rolls from all those 6's, meaning damage scales up and up and up. Damage is seems much easier to dish out than it is to absorb, and having my helicopter blown to pieces from a single sword lunge dealing over 30 damage is testament to that.
