Masud Omari - Paintlog

Post by Olothontor » Fri Sep 16, 2011 10:03 pm

I know at least one person showed some interest in this, and I had originally wanted to do it anyway (mostly to experience the infamous "lulz" that drive the internet).

This is a Paintlog. A Paintlog is 1). A term I just coined, and 2). a thread on a forum that takes the reader from start to finish in the process of painting a miniature- in this case, my character for my Dad's Pathfinder campaign.

Part of the inspiration for this character came from the Inner Sea World Guide's image for the Garundi, their version of the African cultures (to include places along the northeastern corner, like Egypt). Masud is an Osiriani- Osirion being Pathfinder's fantasy Egypt.

That being said, I took the image and ran with it like a pair of scissors, using whatever popped into my head as fluff. With a little help from the Core Rulebook and the Osirion sourcebook, I ended up with a fully-fledged 12th level character, ready to be integrated into the game (after the unfortunate death of my previous character, a necromantic Sorceror from Ustalav).

* * *

I apologize, first off. The pictures are actually not starting where they should. The very beginning of the project took some cutting, shaving, and a bit of green stuff, as well as some bits we had lying around (most likely leftovers from various Warhammer Fantasy box sets).

The original, out-of-the-box model looks like this:

That would've done just fine, if not for two things.
1). The model was designed to be a Half-elf. Masud is plain old Human, so I had to shave his ears down a bit after I pulled him out of the box.
2). His weapons were both awkwardly thick and kinda dinky-looking, which didn't match with Masud's favored duo of Falcata (think like a very large kukri) and shortsword. So, I spent about ten minutes digging through the "arms" bit box, and picked out a few winners. After chopping off the arms he had already, I did some trial-and-error testing to see what positions and which arms I liked best. Once decided, I super-glued them in place, and then green stuff'd the crevices to make them look a bit more natural.

I ended up trying to make him look like he was dodging out of the way of something, but the results are questionable. As it is, he kinda looks like one of those action figures that's advertised as having "kung-fu action grip." I'm really hoping some paint will remedy this a little bit.

You are modding arms but you left flashing on both arms and painted over it.

You should take a file to one of the blades and make it more falchion-y. The guard should be very thin, and the blade itself should have a graceful, sweeping curve.

Why? He doesn't have a falchion.

This is going about as fast as I expected it to go, what with college and a few other projects going on. Bear with me, folks.

What model is this? This looks perfect for my D&D rogue.

Thanks!

That mini is sooo perfect! The fourth pic on that page is literally my character.

Reaper Minis are probably the best ones out there.
