Kinda true, but you gotta admit the people who sticked to Metal those days were the real fans, which went kinda underground until Kurt died.

Also, they totally forgot Speed metal. I would put Accept and Motorhead there. And if Angel Witch gets recognition, Budgie definitely needs some.

I enjoy Metallica. Judas Priest and Iron Maiden too,

Though I didn't really enjoy The Final Frontier that much (save for El Dorado).

Grunge killed Glam Metal, not all metal. Other metal bands that weren't Glam saw an increase in popularity during the Grunge movement. ( I also believe that what they have labeled as glam metal and pop metal are one in the same).

Yes, Judas Priest is power metal. They were the first power metal band and second real metal band behind Black Sabbath. For a long time they were faster and louder than anyone else, which is the only definition of power metal.

I'm actually sort of surprised that I didn't see ACDC on there, unless I mised it.

Well, yeah that's correct to but I guess for today's "standards" of Power Metal Judas is a bit, deviated. I consider Judas to fit simply in the Heavy Metal genre, I mean, they are kinda IT.

I read a book that says that what we think of power metal today is actually better defined as something new, which the author named legacy metal. Bands like Hammerfall fit into this category.

Just the glam you say? Explain to me then why so many thrash metal bands had to quit or change their sound or were informed their stuff was no longer sellable. Heck even Metallica changed their sound from thrash to... well what do you call the black album anyway? I'll say it again though, if metal artists got attention, it's not because of what grunge artists did by pulling all the attention towards them :roll:

Besides attention matters little if metal was forced to change and slaved to the corporations.

PS Helloween was the first Power Metal band, it is Kai Hansen's child. Judas Priest is definitely 'heavy metal' with all of the crap cut out

Otherwise you'd have to call Iron Maiden power metal too... Heck I even saw one review where they called U.D.O. power metal, I was like wtf?. People just throw that term way too loosely.

They even have an old-school crunchy rock'n'roll sound going on on many of their songs. Zupponn also failed to mention Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were also essential for the creation of heavy metal, even if we do not look upon them as metal nowadays. Heck even bands like Styx and Uriah Heep had stuff that was considered metal back in the day.

One of the key elements of Power Metal is their often 'happy' sound compared to other metal genres, I don't really hear that with Judas... and I wouldn't wish for it either

Yep. When I think about nowadays Power Metal I think of Elvenking, Hammerfall, Magic Kingdom, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray and Helloween, altough these last three are not that "nowadays" sort of speaking.
