See your typical emergency survival kit? Add a gun and a big blade to it. You're ready for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Blade? No. Blades will get stuck in the zombie's skull and you'll be torn apart.

Crowbar? FUCK YEAH. The crowbar has enough weight behind the blunt force to cause damage to the brain of the zombie without getting stuck.

Also include a towel, duct tape, and up to 2 litres of water in bottles. Be prepared to be on the run a lot. If you're in a single location make sure you have the resources to survive in that one location. The zombies will horde up and siege you.

Also, start running marathons. Sprinting can be useful, but endurance will be the most important thing to have.

I find the Max Brooks Zombie Survival guide is the one to have.

World War Z was an awesome book. Go check it out.

I'd have supplies stockpiled. Grab a rental truck and head over to the local base with my friends and family and offer to help defend the place. We'd become known as the Calvary, in our tricked-out jeeps with mounted weapons and our hit and run tactics that could clear sieges in a single decisive movement. Eventually, we'd be trapped with no chance of rescue and end up taking most of the city's horde with us when we went. Our group would inspire civilian tactics, eventually leading to the formation of organized survivor squadrons that would secure the city and save those left behind. It would become a beacon of hope for mankind. Stuff of legends.

I think the biggest attractant to the Zombie scenario is the "your fate is in your hands" aspects. Pretty much the focus of any form of 'escapist' entertainment.

If there's a zombie outbreak, I just hope to God that they're shuffle zombies.

Simpler AND more legal solution- track what groceries you buy for a year. Get non-perishables of those things. Put em in a closet/spare room. Now you will survive unmolested for a year if you just board up your windows & doors. Bring something to do with your time. Maybe some RPG rulebooks and a buncha videogames.

Get a generator and about 4 55gallon drums of oil. You're done.

Another great Zombie Survival book is: Day by Day Armageddon by J. L. Bourne.

It "feels" right in how things play out.

I also want to second the World War Z as a wonderful book.

Heavier, longer reach, is a shovel, can be used to crowbar things just like a crowbar.

Weaponry discussion is silly- You don't want to be FIGHTING zombies, you want to be nice and safe in your home, where they can't find you until the dead people rot away and are no longer an issue.

Stockpile. Stay indoors. Stay sane. Write a book or something with all your sweet free time.

Also, if you REALLY want to go out and kill things, get a rifle for like $200 and a box o rounds for a year after the zombies start walking around and you crawl out of your hole. .223 Remington would probably be more than sufficient.

This is if you need to. If you find yourself somewhere with no supplies and you need to get something quick, the Zombie Survival Guide suggests a crowbar.

Not everyone is going to be at home when the zombie outbreak happens. According to Google, Americans ages 15 and older spend only about half their day at home on an average day. What if you're vacationing? Or if you can't get home for some reason? There's more to being prepared then just preparing your home.
