We should develop characters and kill some off in really brutal ways so we can create some real jeopardy for other characters when they are in life threatening positions. No redshirts in the crew.
So we going for a firefly type crew? Seems to be where this is headed, they had resistance fighters in the crew too.

That, I think, depends on the way you portray the FX, rather than the style of jump itself. I personally think both could be really awesome (plus, storywise the Babylon 5 style fast-travel system has some wonderful implications conceptually). I also think instantaneous warp is a bit... cheesy and unrealistic? It seems too convenient (not that it doesn't have risks).ForlornCreature wrote:Also what about the FTL drives in this universe? I think it should be instantaneous and not the whole wormhole thing like with stargate and babylon 5, it'll look cooler

That sounds like something the Immortals would do. Make you think something is important, you take it, and it blows up in your face.thade wrote:Agreed. definitely. Perhaps the ship's secret purpose is an override of the AI (the insane one, perhaps?) or navigational system, heading towards the crew's home planet with some sort of superweapon?
Awkwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard.

I like the earlier idea of an AI which is known to be potentially unstable, but altogether necessary, and later on it goes insane or something like that. However, I feel that it shouldn't be the central problem. We ought to have a series of worsening circumstances, and this is somewhere down the list.

Meanwhile, the Chinese have declared time travel impossible. Because communism.enders_shadow wrote:In the spirit of awesome FTL drives, has anyone heard that it might actually be possible to go FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT??? just putting that out there....all of my sci-fi fantasies are coming true
But that's a discussion for a different thread.

I thought the story was that they had a group of scientists declare it impossible because "particles could not travel faster than the speed of light," and then the government used that as an excuse to ban time travel.Keldoclock wrote:Not impossible, just illegal. Gotta cover your bases, after all.
Although if that's correct, I suppose we're both right.

I say that we kill whoever seems fitting to kill, while preserving the well-being of other characters. I especially feel that we should avoid killing off the main character.

No. Don't kill characters at the end just because it's a sudden plot twist. There's too many sci-fi tragedies out there as is.

Save the youngest character, the one that's always doing stupid things and unlikely to survive.
This sig is too fucking large: show anyway
